I wish I was “poetic”
As a song writer, I always feel inferior to people that I think are just far more creative than me…..some people just have colorful words oozing from them. Not me. It is a part of my brain that just doesn’t work for some reason.
I am always listening to music/songs and am blown away sometimes by what people come up with…..or should I say, just seems to fall out of them.
I remember being in a writing session when thehungr was writing The Rose album. I remember sitting there and Tom and I were working through stuff and he started playing a couple chords and immediately started singing…. “…maybe sometime, I will take the time…..” And I was like, “WHOA!….that’s sweet!” He was like, “what? I was just saying words”
THAT’S WHAT BOTHERS ME.
For some song writers, it just falls out of them……they dont even realize they do it sometimes.
All of my favorite “writers” have this gift. Some of my friends have it. For me, it is about inspiration and usually writing from my own experience or heart. When I wrote “Amazing” I remember specifically thinking what a shame it was to be a “worship leader” and not truly know what the scripture “worship Him in Spirit and Truth” actually meant….
Hence the lyric, “….give me the words, oh Lord, to worship You. In Spirit and in Truth” Literally, GIVE ME THE WORDS Lord, cause I don’t get this….I want to do it, I want to know that I am doing it…..I just don’t.
I guess I am more of a practical writer. While I admit the lyric is beautiful, it is also obvious. I just said what everyone else is thinking.
Oh well….I could go on for a week….but wont. I will bore you all some more tomorrow.
