Who are they rejecting?…..Part B
Churches today are like a secret club. We meet in our closed, secret place…..we speak our own secret language and we pray to our secret God. It’s so secret, most of us “Christians” don’t even tell the people we come in contact with that we are a member.
We might as well be the Masons. Complete with our “fish” emblem instead of the Mason Star.
In case you haven’t noticed….their “secret society” is dieing too. (of course, I am all for that…..)
Our churches are SO bad that even WE don’t want to invite anyone to them. Don’t get mad at me for telling the truth. I grew up in the church…….I have been a member of and served in many churches, different denominations and they ALL have the same thing in common. None of them reach out to the ones who need God most…. Oh we talk a good game, and we all claim how we are going to reach our community for God and we have to do it now….. Meanwhile, Members don’t even mow the grass anymore…… Now the only thing that used to actually happen OUTSIDE the church walls, is done by some contracted dude wearing a muscle shirt. What a witness.
Why is that? Is it because it is SO AMAZINGLY AWESOME that we don’t want anyone else to have it?? Before you get offended…..slow down and ask yourself honestly why the lost aren’t coming to the church….. Now ask yourself why WE aren’t inviting them.
I will admit it….I have never been one to invite people to church. I never completely realized why before (or maybe I knew deep down and didn’t want to admit it) but being a part of a church that is completely focused on getting the unsaved into the building has opened my eyes. I never invited people because, to be honest, even I was somewhat embarassed of what the church was. I personally went to church because I had a relationship with God……which is more than likely why you go……so if church is pretty much someplace that even Christians don’t want to be, why would the lost want to be there?
We HAVE to change. The world has changed and for some reason, the church is still pretending it is 1856 and the world is dealing with the same problems from 1856. (ok, maybe that is an exaggeration…..maybe not though)
If you want to see the lost come to church, it has to be relevant to them. You have to SPEAK THIER LANGUAGE. To hell with tradition and rituals……you need to become “all things to all men”…… If we can some way connect with them on their level, going into the streets and “compelling them to come” will become the easiest thing ever…….
