Help Wanted.

We are close to completing the new Kids facility, but there is still a long way to go. Myself and two other Life Groups will be here building furniture, toys and other things that need completed.

To be honest, between the building, Worship leading, the new project, the downstairs remodel and everything that goes into being the Executive Pastor, I find myself not at home anymore.

Not sure how many days straight it has been, but it has been a lot. Also not sure of how many 10+ hour days I have in over the last month…..but it’s also a lot.

I am overwhelming grateful for the people who have come out to help paint, build, clean, and whatever else…. But I am also a shade angered at those who have kids and have done nothing. If I may be frank for a moment, we are all busy. We all have “a lot” going on. We ALL would rather be at home enjoying the evening with our family or just vegging out….. But if we ALL did that, the building would never be done. In my opinion, if you have kids who will be using this facility for the next 20 years of their lives and you have not lifted a finger to help, shame on you.

Now that you feel guilty, here are things we still need help with…

Painting
Building furniture
Laying Ceramic Tile
Cleaning
Moving stuff from the old building to the new one
Installing sound gear and other media stuff
Building sets
Building the stage
Installing the new coffee bar
General help in multiple areas
Did I say CLEANING?

Joe out.

Shaming people into volunteering kinda defeats the purpose, doesn’t it? People shouldn’t volunteer because they’re made to feel guilty, they should volunteer because their heart leads them to do so.

And how long do we wait for people to decide to volunteer?

It breaks my heart when I see the same few faces repeatedly giving of themselves selflessly for others. My comment was more motivated from that then anything else.

However, those who won’t help or don’t help should be given a pass just cause they may not have the “heart” to volunteer? Last time I looked, my Bible still says “faith without action is dead….”

I understand what you’re saying. I know first hand the frustration of a vision accepted by few, ignored by many, but…

I believe quality should be desired over quantity. Personally, I would prefer a handful of passionate souls with a desire to give of themselves over a multitude of half-hearted individuals shamed into service.

Volunteers are a rare breed. It is exactly their “hearts” that set them apart.

Let your efforts and faith speak for themselves. They are great attributes, true witnesses, and wonderful motivators in and of themselves.

Those who aren’t putting their faith to work will take notice.

Quality over quantity is a great point.

But what I think is getting lost in our conversation is “what” we were looking for help with. We needed bodies to help us in every aspect imaginable to finish a building project. Had we been trying to put together teams to go work in the community or go on missions trips, obviously my message may not have been quite so pointed….

In the end, my example and faith are all I really have to motivate people to make a difference in action for Jesus, and to be honest, some people need to be pushed out of their comfort zone. If “guilting” someone into giving one night of their time gets them to realize the fulfillment they can receive helping others, thus motivating them to put their faith into action early and often, then I have to admit, I don’t feel bad about it.

Joe…haha! I still love your motivational skills and ability to just tell people how you feel: raw, honest, real. LOL
